Richie M. started the topic Buy chickens… Seriously! in the forum Frugal Living Tips 11 months, 2 weeks ago

This is something I did a few years back and it has saved me a lot of money. I use a lot of eggs and my kids eat loads of them as well. It is one of the main protein sources so when a friend of mine was moving, he offered me his chickens. I started with 3 hens and now I have 8. The kids love them, they save us money, they are VERY cheap to feed,…[Read more]

Richie M. replied to the topic Is there a safe crypto? in the forum Crypto FOMO Club 11 months, 2 weeks ago

No crypto is “safe”. They all come with risk. This is the same for stock investing. It is always a risk and nothing is ever 100% safe. I would say that the ones mentioned by Vicky have the most security but anything is possible. I mean any of those could tank overnight.

Richie M. started the topic Bitcoin transactions fees down nearly 94%? in the forum Crypto FOMO Club 11 months, 2 weeks ago

I noticed this today. They were at around $62 and now they are under $5.

I am not really sure what to make of this. What caused this to happen and are they projected to go back up?

I know very little about the people behind these cryptos but I do like hearing about good things like this. Like he didn’t have to do that but did. These are the kinds of folks I like seeing have wealth that expands.

Richie M. replied to the topic Managing college debts? in the forum Debt 11 months, 2 weeks ago

I think Alex is right about his process. You want to find a number you can pay and do it every month. If you contact the bank, they might be willing to work with you because they want the money back by any means possible.

Richie M. replied to the topic Does debt go away on its own if you never pay it? in the forum Debt 11 months, 2 weeks ago

Some do, some don’t. It depends on the state – the bank – the amount… Really a lot of factors. I have known people with small debts (under $3,000) not do anything about it and they stopped being bothered over it. Eventually their credit scores went back up.

Richie M. replied to the topic I owe over $50,000 (Not including my mortgage!) in the forum Debt 11 months, 2 weeks ago

You don’t want to keep sitting on those school debts. They will pile up real fast with interest and before you know it, you will not be able to do anything without the bank breathing down your neck.

Richie M. started the topic What things can be taken away? in the forum Debt 11 months, 2 weeks ago

In the event, you own debt on something or many things and are unable to pay but don’t file for bankruptcy, what can legally be taken away from you? I know it is like a running joke of sorts in cartoons and shows that they just show up and take all your furniture out of your house but that is not how it works, right?

Richie M. replied to the topic What happens if you file for bankruptcy? in the forum Debt 11 months, 2 weeks ago

If you want the steps of each process and things that take place, go here:

Some states differ and this is dependent on the type you file. It isn’t always straightforward.

Are you talking about an HSA? (Health Savings Account)

I am going to assume this is what you mean based on what you mentioned. If you have insurance that has this and it is affordable, thank your lucky stars because they are rare!

Richie M. replied to the topic Changing auto insurance, what are the best options? in the forum Insurance 11 months, 2 weeks ago

In my experience, this greatly depends on your age, state, and driving experiences. If you have a clean record with no accidents and are over the age of 25, you can find a great deal from most providers, even more expensive ones like Allstate.

Richie M. started the topic Who's insurance pays in the event a tree falls over? in the forum Insurance 11 months, 2 weeks ago

My brother’s neighbor had a tree in his yard that was recommended he removed because it was rotted. Well, we just had a bad storm pass through and the tree fell over into my brother’s yard and landed right on his garage. The tree went right through the roof of the garage and damaged his wife’s car. The neighbor is refusing to do anything about it…[Read more]

Richie M. replied to the topic Can you get money back from renter's insurance? in the forum Insurance 11 months, 2 weeks ago

I believe in some states you can in the form of a tax refund but you would have to verify this with who your insurance is run through as well as your state’s issues on the matter. You should have a basic state webpage that will direct you to all tax-related questions. It will be an official government website.

Richie M. replied to the topic Does your insurance include full dental coverage? in the forum Insurance 11 months, 2 weeks ago

I think most insurance these days doesn’t directly include dental as that is considered a secondary practice, same with eyes case. I am not sure why this was changed or when it was changed but I don’t know anyone who has insurance with dental or eye care included as standard.

Richie M. started the topic Should you accept someone paying for the damages vs filing a claim? in the forum Insurance 11 months, 2 weeks ago

I was rear-ended and the person who did it would rather cover the cost of the damages to my car vs filing a claim through insurance for the issue. I have never been in this kind of position and I am meant to give the person an estimate this weekend. Taking my car in tomorrow. Is this smart to do?
