My parents are still hooked on cable. Between that, the landlines, and the internet, they are paying $140 A MONTH! That is insane. If they got rid of the phones and the cable, they can pay for the internet which would be $40 and then sign up for Netflix or something and be paying less than half.

Sammy replied to the topic What is your favorite money saving tip that your parents taught you growing up? in the forum Frugal Living Tips 2 years, 11 months ago
They taught me nothing! LOL! I wish I had listened to my oldest brother because he was smart about it. He actually advised me not to go to college and attend a community school or trade school and focus on a career I know I can find work in first cause I can always go back to school. Mistakes were made. I know better now/

Sammy replied to the topic How to keep fast food cheap? in the forum Frugal Living Tips 2 years, 11 months ago
Most places still do have value menus but they are not as “robust” as they used to be! I noticed this changing when I was still in college. What I tend to do with my mom is order a value meal and we split it. This saves money and most of the time there are coupons where my dad eats for free or almost free. We end up getting food for the three of…[Read more]

Sammy replied to the topic Organizing coupons – Best strategy? in the forum Frugal Living Tips 2 years, 11 months ago
I have never been someone to bother with coupons but my mother does and she uses those card sheets for collectible cards. The ones that have 9 pockets on them. She uses tape to label them so she knows when they expire. She just goes according to month and year, she doesn’t worry about the exact date. When coupons are within 6 weeks of expiring,…[Read more]

Sammy started the topic Using LED bulbs in the forum Frugal Living Tips 2 years, 11 months ago
I finally made the switch for myself and my family. They were very reluctant to change. My mother didn’t trust the bulbs and my father was convinced it was a scam. I used a bonus I got to buy LED bulbs for the entire house (outside of appliances) and within the first month, they saw the cost of the electricity go down 30%! I think they will notice…[Read more]

Sammy replied to the topic Is it possible to get into a career in IT without a degree? in the forum Career Advice 2 years, 11 months ago
Yeah, I think it is but this is a matter of knowing someone who knows someone. I can’t see a company hiring anyone without a good word if they don’t have the papers to prove they know what is required for the job.

Sammy started the topic How can I land a job in my field if no one is hiring? in the forum Career Advice 2 years, 11 months ago
I graduated in 2019 and have yet to get a job in the main thing I went to college for. It is frustrating and disappointing!
Right now I am working for a local coffee shop and I am only making $14 an hour which is not enough to live on my own unless I live with a friend or move in with another family member.
How can I get a job when I can’t…[Read more]

Sammy replied to the topic Is it possible to raise your credit scores +100 in 3 months? in the forum Credit Card Co. 2 years, 11 months ago
I think you will have a hard time doing this. I have not known anyone to get more than 25 points in a month and that was a stretch. if you have less credit/debt, it might be easier but if you have more, don’t expect to see major changes like this even when you are taking steps in the right direction.

Sammy started the topic Are Discover cards really that bad? in the forum Credit Card Co. 2 years, 11 months ago
I have been preapproved for one and would like to get it but both my parents as well as my brother and one friend say that they are not good cards to have if you don’t already have good credit scores. I don’t see how this makes any sense. I thought a credit card is a credit card regardless of the name of the bank on it.

Sammy replied to the topic Is it smart to use credit to buy crypto? in the forum Credit Card Co. 2 years, 11 months ago
It is basically gambling like you said so I would say it is not a good idea. I don’t know much about crypto aside from what a few family/friends have said so I can’t really speak much on the topic. I do know that this sound like a bad idea though!

Sammy replied to the topic If I can pay off a card in full, should I? in the forum Debt 2 years, 11 months ago
From what I know, this depends on the amount you owe. Like if it is a smaller amount, you may as well just pay it off but if you owe more, put the money you have aside and make 2 payments a month. I built up my credit doing this. Shame it got hit hard from my other debts!

I have about $33k in student loan debt. I have yet to pay any of it and in the last few years alone from not paying it, the interest has brought it up to $38k. I was making minimum payments here and there and struggling. I have to find a way to manage it now that I am working more hours. It would be easier if I could find a job in my field but…[Read more]

Sammy started the topic Renting vs Buying – Which is better long term? in the forum Real Estate 2 years, 11 months ago
I can’t buy a house and if I plan on moving out from “the nest” I am going to have to rent. This likely means I will be in an apartment complex and not a house which I am not looking forward to. I hate apartments and would much rather rent a house but I just can’t afford it on my salary.
I know buying is ideal but plenty of people never buy a…[Read more]

Sammy replied to the topic Is the market expect to increase a lot? in the forum Real Estate 2 years, 11 months ago
I love looking at homes online that are for sale and when I find ones I like, I actually enjoy recreating them in that Sims 4 game. Something I noticed when doing this though is that most houses go on the market and are bought within a few weeks, sometimes within a few days! I started doing this last year and I was shocked to see people being able…[Read more]

Sammy started the topic Affording a house is hard in your 20's! in the forum Real Estate 2 years, 11 months ago
I planned on owning a house by the time I was 25 and I am going to be 26 in a few months. I graduated from college in 2019 at the age of 23 and fully intended on being able to find a job and get a house within two years… That didn’t happen! In fact, I have yet to find a job in the field I went to school for and I have yet to pay any of my…[Read more]

Hey everyone, my name is Sammy or Sam for short. I recently graduated from college (in 2019) and I am looking to get some of my debts under control and keep them from becoming worse. I am hoping I can learn some stuff on this platform as well as share some of my experiences. I don’t want to end up like my parents who are still struggling…[Read more]
