Who is Unbox Therapy?

Owned by online entrepreneur Lewis Hilsenteger, Unbox Therapy is a very popular YouTube channel that reviews all kinds of technology products. Over 17 million people are currently subscribed to the channel, and Lewis uses his platform to review everything from smartphones to laptops to gaming controllers. Every review entertaining, informative, and filmed with a high-definition video camera so you can easily see all of the product’s details.

How did Lewis Hilsenteger get popular?

Lewis started his channel in 2010, and he used his tech expertise to grow the channel’s subscriber base over time. When the channel first launched, most YouTube videos were being made by people with very low-definition filming equipment. Lewis, however, was able to leverage his videography background from the Art School of Toronto to blow away the competition.

In addition to its beautiful videos and crisp editing, the channel also became known for reviewing technology products that most people weren’t even aware of. While almost everybody was trying to do videos on the latest iPhone, Lewis got to work creating reviews of specialized headphones, electric toothbrushes, and computer accessories.

Approximate annual pay and net worth

Rumor has it that Lewis Hilsenteger has amassed a net worth of more than $20,000,000 through company sponsorships and advertising revenue. Although Lewis has never discussed his exact net worth on his channel, we can make some reasonable estimates from publically available data.

Although Lewis currently has more than 17 million subscribers, an impressive amount by anybody’s standards, his channel’s videos have been viewed more than 3.5 billion times around the world. Normally, YouTube channels receive between $2 and $7 per 1,000 views. Using the lower rate of $2 per 1,000 views just to be conservative, it’s likely that Lewis has earned at least $8,000,000 through advertising revenue alone.

Fun fact

Lewis started his review business as a side hustle while he was working in an Apple computer repair shop. Although he is the public face of the channel, he actually has a partner named Jack who helps him manage the day-to-day operations.
